Kiba’s Story: A Lesson in Planning

Kiba, my bubba my boy, had treatment for thyroid cancer and a torn cruciate ligament in 2023, costing us over $20,000 in vet bills. We had no insurance so this was all out of pocket. 

When Kiba was a year old, insurance wasn't returning any money from my claims and thinking I'll just save some money and put it aside, I went ahead and cancelled the insurance.

Then just last month his cancer came back and in 10 days his vet bills were $10,000. Making matters worse, we couldn't save him and he gained his wings at only 8 years old.

Not only are we going through the heartache of losing our boy, but we also have the added financial stress of being in debt. 

Freja's Story: A Lesson from Experience

In 2023 I re-insured Freja. She was 11 years old and the premiums were costing me $120/month.

At first I was paying this monthly without any claims but this year she too tore her cruciate ligament and her TPLO was $5,500 surgery, thankfully insurance covered $2000.

She has also had a dental that was $1600 and we received $800 back.

As you can see this is many months of premiums that have paid for themselves.

When Kiba was going through his cancer journey I met a lady who insured her dog just before finding out he had cancer. The cancer was in his bone and it meant he needed an amputation. It cost $25,000 and she says she received $19,000 back from the insurance.

It would take me a veeeeeeeeeery long time to save that much and when you think about it, that's like 13 years of premiums, making insurance well worth it.
